2024 Saudi Arabian GP Preview: F1 Race, Circuit & Qualifying Timings

The 2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix is scheduled to take place from March 7 to March 9, with the main race set for Saturday, March 9. Free practice sessions are slated for Thursday, followed by the crucial qualifying session on Friday. The race itself is expected to commence at approximately 17:00 GMT, offering fans around the world an exciting spectacle.

As one of the newer additions to the Formula 1 schedule, the history of the Jeddah Corniche Circuit is still in its infancy. Designed by the Tilke company in collaboration with Formula 1’s Motorsport team, the circuit was created to provide a challenging and exciting racing experience. F1’s Managing Director, Ross Brawn, emphasized the importance of circuits that challenge drivers and elevate the sport.

Reflecting on the previous year’s race, the 2023 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix saw Red Bull drivers dominate once again, with Sergio Perez securing victory ahead of teammate Max Verstappen. Fernando Alonso’s impressive performance secured him a podium finish, further highlighting the competitive nature of the event. With such thrilling races in its short history, the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix promises excitement and drama for fans and drivers alike in 2024.

The Jeddah Corniche Circuit, located in Saudi Arabia, made its debut on the Formula 1 calendar in 2021, joining its Middle Eastern counterparts in Bahrain and Abu Dhabi. Crafted by the renowned Tilke company in collaboration with Formula 1’s Motorsports team, the circuit boasts a distinctive blend of temporary street layouts with some permanent sections.

The circuit’s inaugural race showcased its unique characteristics. With an average speed of around 250km/h, it emerged as the fastest street circuit in Formula 1 history, second only to Monza, renowned as ‘The Temple of Speed.’ Featuring a staggering 27 corners, many of them quick and sinuous, drivers faced a daunting challenge navigating the scenic Jeddah waterfront.
