- Oktagon MMA’s reality show challenges fighters beyond their comfort zones.
- Ireland vs. England coaches lead young fighters in the competition.
- Channel 4 partnership brings MMA content, including a unique reality show, to a wider audience.
Oktagon MMA, the premier European Mixed Martial Arts promotion, has just unveiled an exhilarating reality show set to captivate audiences across the UK and Ireland. The inaugural episode is now available for streaming on Channel 4’s online platform and the Channel 4 Sport YouTube channel, promising a unique and thrilling viewing experience.
What sets this reality TV series apart is its ingenious concept: athletes accustomed to the world of sports will confront challenges beyond their familiar territory. These carefully crafted challenges aim to push these fighters out of their comfort zones, offering fans a glimpse of the true personalities and characters concealed beneath their tough exteriors. As the competition unfolds, the last two fighters standing will have the opportunity to make their debut in the Oktagon MMA arena at Oktagon 48, set to take place at the AO Arena in Manchester, where they’ll vie for a coveted 5-figure contract.
Leading the charge for the Irish prospects is the legendary Paddy Holohan, an icon in the Irish MMA scene, with the formidable Next Gen fighter and Oktagon lightweight contender Shem Rock serving as his co-coach. Meanwhile, MMA pioneer and UFC veteran Brad Pickett will guide the English contingent, who joins forces with fellow lightweight prospect Akonne Wanliss as co-coach.
Pavol Neruda, co-founder of Oktagon MMA, expressed his enthusiasm for this venture, stating, “England vs. Ireland is an age-old rivalry. This entire concept revolves around bragging rights, and we take immense pride in the opportunities we’re providing these young fighters. Our debut in the UK, scheduled for November in Manchester, is just the beginning, as we also have plans to introduce Oktagon MMA to Ireland in the near future. Our aim is to rally the fans of these great nations behind their own fighters and elevate these rising stars to the stardom we believe they deserve.”
Neruda added, “MMA fans in the UK and Ireland have been somewhat isolated, but we intend to change that. By expanding our reach to their friends and relatives and attracting new fans, we aim to create a larger and more vibrant MMA community. We aspire to become the home of MMA in the UK.”
Channel 4 has solidified a broadcast partnership with Oktagon MMA, promising to bring all the live events and engaging shoulder programming from the European MMA competition to viewers through Channel 4’s streaming platform and Channel 4 Sport YouTube channel.
This collaboration coincides with Oktagon’s eagerly anticipated UK debut on November 4, hosted at Manchester’s AO Arena during Oktagon 48.
Kicking off this exciting partnership is the new reality TV series “Stage to the Cage,” featuring reality TV sensation Jake Quickenden and comedian Paul Smith. The series premieres with its first three episodes on Tuesday, September 5, followed by “Oktagon Challenge: England vs. Ireland” later in the month.
The inaugural live event, Oktagon 46, is scheduled for September 16 and will showcase the semi-finals of the €1 million (£860k) Tipsport Gamechanger welterweight tournament at the Festhalle Frankfurt in Germany.
