Industry sources reveal that the streaming giant is currently in the process of creating a new documentary series that will feature prominent NBA stars, including LeBron James, Jayson Tatum, Jimmy Butler, Anthony Edwards, and Domantas Sabonis.
The project is a collaboration between LeBron James’ SpringHill Company, former President Barack Obama’s Higher Ground Productions, and Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions. Filming has already commenced for the series, although details such as the title and premiere date are yet to be disclosed. The Wall Street Journal had previously reported talks about the potential series back in October.
Netflix’s entry into the NBA media landscape follows the successful formula established with the “Quarterback” series, which showcased NFL players such as Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins, and Marcus Mariota during the 2022 season.
The move is not only a cost-effective strategy for Netflix but also provides an opportunity to gauge audience interest and consumption patterns.
