The Sacramento Kings took a strategic step on Thursday to enhance their frontcourt by signing a seasoned player with championship experience.
According to information from ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski, the Kings and small forward Juan Toscano-Anderson have reached a one-year agreement. The 30-year-old Mexican athlete, who most recently played for the Mexico City Capitanes in the NBA G League, is set to bring valuable experience to the Kings.
Responding promptly to Wojnarowski’s tweet, Toscano-Anderson expressed his readiness to embrace the Kings’ ethos with a succinct three-word rallying cry, “Light the Beam then!” The phrase “Light the Beam” is the King’s tradition for celebrating victories.
Toscano-Anderson gained prominence during his three seasons with the Golden State Warriors from 2019 to 2022, where he averaged 4.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.9 assists in 17.1 minutes per game. Additionally, he had brief stints with the Los Angeles Lakers and Utah Jazz in the previous season.
Sources indicate that Kings head coach Mike Brown, who previously served as an assistant coach for the Warriors, was eager to bring Toscano-Anderson into the team’s training camp in October. The relationship between the two developed during their time with the Warriors.
Despite standing at a relatively modest height of 6’6″, Toscano-Anderson, known for his long wingspan and versatility, is expected to be a valuable asset coming off the Kings’ bench as a small-ball big.
Before joining the Kings, Toscano-Anderson showcased his skills in the NBA G League, playing 11 games for the Capitanes. During this period, he averaged 19.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.5 steals per contest, demonstrating his ability to contribute across multiple facets of the game.
