The 2024 PGA Tour season begins with The Sentry from January 4-7, held on the Plantation Course at Kapalua, Hawaii. The Sentry Tournament of Champions will feature winners from the 2022-23 season, as well as players in the top 50 of the FedEx Cup points standings.

Preview of The Sentry 2024
The 2024 FedExCup Regular Season kicks off in January with the “Opening Drive” at The Sentry and Sony Open in Hawaii, marking the beginning of a 36-event series. At these events, all players commence with zero FedExCup points, aiming to establish a strong foundation in the race for the FedExCup.
The Sentry serves as the inaugural Signature Event of the season, featuring PGA TOUR winners from the previous calendar year and the top 50 members from the 2022-23 FedExCup standings, those who qualified for the BMW Championship, the second FedExCup Playoffs event.
In a notable change for 2024, the field now includes more than just the year’s PGA Tour winners, with the top 50 players from the 2022–23 FedEx Cup points list also receiving invitations.
Holding the current fourth rank globally, Hovland secured three PGA Tour titles in the calendar year, including the Tour Championship. Scheffler defended his win at the WM Phoenix Open in February and clinched a victory at the Players Championship. Fowler celebrated his first win since 2019 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic this summer. Although Matsuyama didn’t add a PGA Tour title to his record in 2023, he maintained a position in the FedEx Cup top 50.
Tony Finau, a six-time PGA Tour winner, recently confirmed his participation in The Sentry, dispelling rumors with an Instagram post that concluded with the hashtag “#imnotleaving.”
In a surprising move last week, Jon Rahm announced his departure from the PGA Tour for LIV Golf. Despite this decision, Rahm’s impressive 2023 record, including four wins, notably at the Masters for his second major championship, reverberated throughout the golf world.
Japan native Matsuyama is set to make his seventh appearance at The Sentry after finishing in the top 50 of the 2022-23 FedExCup standings and qualifying for the 2023 BMW Championship.
