What is the Format of the World Champions Cup 2023?

The format of the World Champions Cup involves specific sessions and scoring methods over the three days of competition.

First Two Days:

  • Each of the first two days comprises one three-match session of Six Ball and one three-match session of Scotch Sixsome.
  • No match repairs occur until the Singles match.
  • Two waves of Singles matches take place on the final day.

Scotch Sixsome:

  • In Scotch Sixsome, both players in a two-man team tee off on every hole.
  • After selecting a ball, they take alternate strokes to complete the hole.
  • The team with the lowest score on each hole earns two points, the second lowest receives one point, and the highest score gets no points.
  • Teams with the same score on a hole are awarded the same number of points.

Six Ball:

Preview of the World Champions Cup 2023

The top players from the PGA TOUR Champions converge for the inaugural World Champions Cup at The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Florida, from December 7 to December 10. This international team competition promises four days of intense competition, including a pro-am event on Saturday, December 9.

The tournament will witness three formidable teams—Team International, Team Europe, and Team USA—competing in a mixed-team format, led by distinguished Playing Captains Ernie Els, Darren Clarke, and Jim Furyk, respectively. Guiding the event as Tournament Chairman is the accomplished seven-time PGA TOUR winner, Peter Jacobsen.

With a significant $1.35 million purse up for grabs, the winning team members will each receive $100,000, while the second and third-place players will be awarded $75,000 and $50,000, respectively.

Team USA

In this unique format, each hole will contribute three points to the overall score based on individual team results. The competition requires the completion of every hole, with all matches played in their entirety (nine holes), without any closeouts or concessions.

Scoring is straightforward: the team with the lowest score on a hole earns two points, the second lowest receives one point, and the team with the highest score gains no points. In the event of tied scores, teams share the corresponding points.

For instances where two teams tie for the lowest score, each receives one and a half points, leaving the third team with none. Similarly, if all three teams tie on a hole, each team is awarded one point.

Bottom Line

World Champions Cup 2023 at The Concession Golf Club from December 7 to December 10 with a substantial $1.35 million purse begins December 7. Winners receive $100,000 each, second place gets $75,000, and third place takes home $50,000. The meticulous format ensures transparency, with each hole contributing three points based on individual team results. The World Champions Cup promises unparalleled golfing action and strategic brilliance.
